Lyrics From My CD, Hours Ago:

Wishing On A Falling Star

I thought about you all day

I still see you walking away

I caused a scene this morning

Coming on like a storm without warning

I picked a useless fight

Just because I had to be right

Refrain: Am I wishing on a falling star

Can I open up my eyes and there you are

Is your heart still open, maybe

Or am I only hoping, Baby

Am I wishing on a falling star

You say you’re weary of the same old thing

I look at you with eyes that blame

Instead of talking it through

Or understanding your point of view

I act it out instead

Leaving so much left unsaid

I don’t have any promises

Or scripted words to say

I only have this open heart

A hoping heart

Don’t walk away

Hours Ago

He sits alone in the silence

The world has gone to sleep hours ago

He listens to his heartbeat

And the wind beneath his feet hours ago

He wonders how’d his life take such a turn

And how’d he lose his love hours ago

He hears an ancient song

A marriage hymn once sung hours ago

Refrain:   It only seems like hours ago

Where did all the love go

It only seems like hours ago

Where did all the love go

He steals into his child’s room

And watches as she sleeps hours ago

He listens to her breathing

And soon begins to weep hours ago

He wanders through his memories

How time has turned to dust hours ago

Bitter church bells ringing

The chimes have turned to rust hours ago

The Sequel

So you’re saying you’re superior

The God anointed special race

But the color of your skin

Is what qualified you for that place

You quote the Bible like the best of them

You’re not someone to be crossed

You’re sayin that you’re found

But it only looks to me like you’re lost

Refrain: We’re just an ongoing sequel

We’re nothing more than equal

So don’t come a-saving me

Don’t tell me what I’m supposed to believe

So war is always justified

Because you’re sure that God is on our side

And will lead us in the fight

Cause it’s always been that might makes right

You say “Deliver us from evil”

But that’s about as far as you get

”And forgive us our trespasses”

Well that’s the part that you haven’t learned yet

So you’re telling me you really think

That Jesus gonna bless what you speak

Cause you’re a Sunday Christian

Then you go about the rest of your week

You take Jesus out of context

As if it’s just for you that He bled

You overlook His love for everyone

And you’d have probably wanted Him dead

Little Man

Little Man, you’ve had such a busy day

Taking in all your world has to offer

If you’ll allow, I will rock you to sleep

And we’ll pray the Lord your soul to keep

Little Man, I’ll be there when you awaken

And I will softly dry your tears

And then we’ll sing about all your favorite things

And when you smile, well I’ll feel like a king

Little Man

Refrain: Little Man, close your sleepy eyes

Little Man, bid the day good bye

Dream your dreams, let your imagination fly

Far beyond your sky

Little Man, sleep well tonight

Little Man, I pray the Lord will bless you

And I pray the Lord will always keep you safe

And help you grow to be all you can be

And help you know love given and received

Little Man

My Only Girl

I remember when I held her for the very first time

And the feel of her heartbeat so close to mine

And the taste of her sweet love, her sweet love so fine

My only girl

Time flies, flies by so slowly

And I feel sad and lowly

And I cry for my one and only

Only girl

If you see her would you tell her that I miss her

Would you tell me if she tells you she misses me too

Then I would get down on my knees

And I would beg pretty please

If she, if she would just be

My only girl

Closing The Book On That Girl

Chorus: I judged a book by its cover

And paid the price for a half hearted lover

I don’t know how I let her be the center of my world

Was it love or was it addiction

Was it truthful or was it fiction

End of story, I’m closing the book

Closing the book on that girl

If there was ever such a thing as rewind

Or if I could leave it all behind, you know I would

And it’s true to say that I never knew her

And I wouldn’t let myself see through her

Clever disguise hiding behind her eyes

Well I never saw how shallow she could be

I only saw what I wanted to see, silly me

There were signs, but I wanted to believe

Maybe I was so afraid she would leave

I lied to myself, I denied myself

Well I only have myself to blame

I’m the one who dealt myself in the game

She played me well

In no time at all I’ll forget her

I’ll forget the day that I ever met her

But man, if I don’t smell flowers in the air

Just like the ones that used to color her hair

Song of Love

I awoke the day we met from a dream I’d rather forget

Opened my eyes, saw your face and felt the warmth of your embrace

Chorus: Let love with you create everything anew

The song of love begins and ends with you

On the day our love came to pass my heart found a home at last

The blessing of a life with you is a love that’s ever true

As seasons change, years go by, safe in loving arms we lie

Growing in love’s grace therefore hearts entwined forevermore

Ghost In The Attic

Better watch what you’re saying

I think the walls have ears

There’s a ghost in the attic

And he’s been there for years

I felt him tapping my shoulder

He said he wanted to talk

Being the guest of a ghost

Who was I to balk

There’s a ghost in the attic

And he kept me awake half the night

But at least he was friendly and polite

Until his countenance changed

A wiley grin he cast

He said “I know all about you,

I’m the ghost of you past

I’m the critical voice you hear

Whenever you look back”

And he grabbed a handful of memories

And went on the attack

There’s a ghost in the attic

And he kept me awake most the night

He was very familiar with my life

Ghost in the attic

Ghost in the addict

I said, “I don’t want to hear this”

But he just kept saying more

So I stood up to leave

But couldn’t find the door

I turned around to face him

That’s when I started to see

I’ll be damned if that ghost

Didn’t look like me

There’s a ghost in the attic

Living in the storehouse of all my regret

I may learn to forgive but he won’t let me forget

Time lost.....I’m lost....

When morning came I awakened

Relieved that it was a dream

And he was only a figment

Or so it might seem

There’s a ghost in the attic

And he visits me sometimes in the night

I let him have his say then I turn on the light

Ghost in the attic

Ghost in the addict

(Ghostly muttering...)

The Light In Your Eyes

Once, once I saw the light

The light in your eyes

I saw the light in your eyes

There was no turning back

The light in your eyes, the light in your eyes

I was lost, adrift at sea until I saw your light

Guiding me home

Once, once I felt the love

The love in your heart

I felt the love in your heart

There was no holding back

The love in your heart, the love in your heart

I was lost in the cold until I felt your warmth

Guiding me home

 Love Me Overtime

Well c’mon pretty baby, c’mon and love me overtime

I said c’mon pretty baby, c’mon and love me overtime

I can’t pay union wage but I can give you everything that’s fine

Well c’mon pretty baby, love me till the sky turns blue

I said c’mon pretty baby love me till the sky turns blue

I been so damn lonely waitin on the likes of you

Love me overtime, love me overtime right now

Love me overtime, love me overtime right now, right now

C’mon pretty baby, love me like there’s no tomorrow

I said c’mon pretty baby, love me like there’s no tomorrow

Let your love rain down and wash away all my sorrow

Love me overtime, love me overtime right now

Love me overtime, love me overtime right now, right now

C’mon pretty baby, love me through my final hour

I said c’mon pretty baby, love me through my final hour

Turn your love light on and turn it up to high power

The Last Time I Sang You The Boxer

The last time I sang you The Boxer

You were lying in your silent sleep

A single tear running down your cheek

The last time

The last time I sang you The Boxer

I’d forgotten about the years gone by

In that moment there was just you and I

The last time

The last time I sang you The Boxer

I could swear I thought I saw you smile

The last time I told you I loved you

I was crying, sitting by your side

My hand upon your chest could feel your heart reply

The last time

The last time I sang you The Boxer

Was the sweetest give you’ve ever given me

The sweetest gift you’ve ever given me

Sophie Lou

I got a dog named Sophie Lou

Sweetest dog I ever knew

Picked her up at the local pound

They said, “Look here boy we got this hound

She’s not too bright but she’s really smart

Give her a chance she’ll win your heart

She’s good for a surprise or two

You won’t believe what the dog can do”

Chorus: Sophie Lou, Sophie Lou

What can you do

Once I came home late at night

And I saw the strangest sight

She had her friends over for a game

Texas Hold ‘Em was the name

She’s sitting there with a pile of chips

And a crappy old grin across her lips

She took them dogs for all they’re worth

She’s the best card playing dog on earth

I took her on a trip somewhere

Cuz she was banned from doggy day care

I got really tired, sleepy eyed

She said, “Move on over, let me drive”

She’s weaving in and out of cars

I didn’t think we’d get too far

When the cop caught a whiff of that smelly grin

He let her off with just a warning

If you need a dog my friend

I got one that I can lend

She’s not too bright but she’s really smart

Give her a chance, she’ll win your heart

She’ll do your laundry, wax your car

Put new strings on your guitar

You’ll never have to work that hard

She’ll mow your grass and then clean your yard

When God Is Mother

God is mother, mother is God

Her love is her commitment

Her commitment is her fraud

A young man awakens

Lays his dream in her hands

She leads him to the Father

Who’s been planning his advance

The conversation lingers

”Why” he continues to prod

Caressing his hair with his fingers

When God is mother and mother is God

Clothing tattered by the empty sky

He’s yearning to leave now

No idea why

Too meager is this vessel

On the vast ocean blue

In need of navigation

All the stars have fallen through

The hour is approaching

But the ceremony’s flawed

Leaving him late for the altar

When God is mother and mother is God

Awaken at dawn from a restless night

Facing the darkness

Another mourning’s light

Somewhere in the distance

A lone church bell chimes

Calling for Her wayward children

While She bandages Her crimes

All alone now he stumbles

Neath the weight of the facade

Turning away he lets it crumble

When God is mother and mother is God

Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you

And always may the wind be at your back

May the sun shine warm upon you

Rain softly on your fields

Until we meet again

May God hold you

May God hold you

May God hold you in the palm of His hand
